Before we go any further, I want you to meet my friend, and one of the founders of BEONDTV, Carlos Amezcua.
As a member of the Board of Directors at the “Surfing Heritage & Culture Center, (SHACC), I have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with many accomplished and celebrated surfers, shapers, photographers, writers, and media personalities that serve on our Advisory Council.
Carlos Amezcua serves on our Advisory Council, and is one of the celebrated individuals and is the genesis of this story. Carlos and I met during one of our SHACC Board of Directors and Advisory Council all-day strategy meetings. I found him to be interesting, sincere, and genuine.
I wanted to know more about him, his work in television, and any plans he might have for the immediate future. After our meeting, we had an opportunity to spend a few minutes and get acquainted. He was interested in my professional background and asked me questions about the documentary film that I was co-producing.
We both had obligations later, so we decided that we should meet for lunch and get better acquainted. Two weeks later, we met for lunch in Oceanside, CA.
Carlos told me about growing up in San Diego and his love for surfing. He talked about his family and his 35 years of reporting, anchoring, and commenting on global news events. His 22 “Emmy Awards,” and co-anchoring prime time news at KTLA in Los Angeles for almost 2

years. I said, “That’s quite an accomplishment, and 22 “Emmy Awards”?” He smiled, and said, “Thank you, but my greatest accomplishments are my five children.” I was impressed with his answer, as it told me a lot about him.
I shared an edited version of my business career, and then told him about “Addicted to Joy,” our documentary film about the history of surfing and surf culture that Filmmaker, Richard Newman and I co-produced. He seemed interested, and asked if I would send him a link to the trailer for our film. “Consider it done,” I said.
He said that he and his partners had been working for some time on a new and unique TV video platform. I was curious and wanted to know more about this new platform.
He said, the team behind BEONDTV are: Co-Founders and On-Air Hosts are me, Carlos Amezcua and Lisa Remillard, Co-Founder and President, Amie Martin, and Co-Founder, and Howard Bolter, COO/CTO.
BEONDTV is a new TV video platform that exposes a worldwide audience to a “Southern California” viewpoint, with ‘No Bias’ and ‘No Interference.’ It is an ‘On Demand’ viewing experience unlike anything out there. I said, “Wow, that’s fascinating, what else can you tell me?”
We showcase authentic, captivating, informative, and entertaining ‘issue-driven’ news and original content from media professionals and gifted “story-tellers.”
Our idea was to structure this new platform with a lineup of curated high-end original content that will be accessible on the BEOND.TV site, as well as through local broadcast outlets.
Southern California is home to influencers, movie stars, innovators, and visionaries. And did you know that over 150 languages are spoken in Southern California? Impressive, and that alone is a global audience!

Carlos brings his wealth of local and international experience and insight to the “Carlos & Lisa Show” as well as his warm and sincere personality. The bottom line – he’s genuine!
Lisa Remillard returns to L.A., where she grew up. Lisa has more than 15 years of award-winning work in television. Her intelligence, gifted smile, and infectious upbeat personality plays well with Carlos and is evident during their interviews.
They tackle all of the timely news of the day and other topics that truly matter and are relevant to Southern Californians. Their fresh perspective on politics and stimulating interviews with aspiring actors, singers, writers, and intriguing dedicated people who are making a difference in all of our lives.

Filmmaker, Richard Newman and I are the co-producers of an exciting, new historical documentary, “Addicted to Joy.” We’re certainly dedicated, aspiring, and relevant to Southern California. Carlos thought so too, and invited Richard and I to appear on their “Carlos & Lisa Show” to talk about our film.
That was an easy decision, and we gleefully accepted.
After meeting and chatting with Lisa Remillard, Amie Martin, and the rest of the crew, we were directed to a couch where we would sit and be interviewed by Carlos.
Carlos interviewed Richard and me, and posed some thoughtful questions. We took pleasure in answering his questions and enjoyed a lively discussion during the interview, and really enjoyed the entire experience.
Television and Media have always been a love of mine…
I stuck around after our video segment and asked Amie Martin some questions about her role at BEONDTV, and I spoke with Lisa Remillard too. My experience was enjoyable, stimulating, and inspired me to get better acquainted with Carlos, Amie and the BEONDTV family, and that is what I did.
“Small Business Initiative” – “In the chaos and the uncertainty, lies the Opportunity”…
After a couple of Zoom calls, and an exchange of emails, it became obvious to Carlos and Amie that I was interested in exploring potential opportunities for me at BEONDTV. What could I do that would enhance and augment their talents and efforts to grow their audience and their brand?
Carlos had recently created the “Small Business Initiative,” a program that is a direct result of the COVID19 pandemic, which has had a major impact on all of us, and especially impacted small businesses, non-profits, and charities in Southern California.
Businesses that do not have the “cash-flow” to market their their target audience, and their concerns for consumer confidence and consumer demand, knowing they can’t rely on financial assistance from the government.
The Opportunity… BEONDTV will provide “storytelling” to display and promote the human spirit and the human element of small businesses, non-profits, and charities.
The small business owner(s) are interviewed remotely by Carlos and Lisa during the “Carlos & Lisa” show about their business, their stories, and how they can be reached. BEONDTV provides all production, post-production, and distribution of their video segments on KDOC-TV, BEOND.TV, ROKU, KSL App, YouTube, and the BEONDTV social media channels.
The Sponsors… SCE (Southern California Edison) recognized the opportunity and took action to sponsor and invest in some inspirational people to promote their ideas and shine a light on the businesses that were in need of recognition and financial support for their target audience, awareness, and beyond.

Carlos and Amie came to the conclusion that I could complement and enhance the awareness and the growth of their brand.

Presently, my focus is on our “Small Business Initiative.” I say ‘our’ because I’m a part of the family now.
